Exploring Flow Indicators

  • Tank Components Industries
  • July 14, 2021

Manufacturing sight glasses are an important part of product control. After all, you can’t control the quality of your product if you can’t see the interactions taking place within your process vessel. However, some manufacturing processes are a bit too complex to observe with the naked eye. Enter flow indicators, which allow a precise read on both flow rate and liquid flow for direction. Tank Components offers two flow indicator options, allowing customers to identify the best option for their facility.

Exploring Flow Indicators

What Is a Flow Indicator?

A sight flow indicator allows manufacturing professionals to observe precise levels of liquid flow for direction, as well as an accurate flow rate. Flow indicators also allow operators to get a better look at the features of liquids, including color and clarity, during manufacturing processes. These indicators typically have one or more viewing windows and can be placed directly into your skid’s piping system using flanged connections or sanitary clamp connections.

Why Are Flow Indicators Important?

Peering through a sight glass gives operators some control over manufacturing processes. But if you’re working with liquids, powders, or gases, you need precise measurements, not just estimates. Flow indicators go beyond direct observation, giving accurate liquid level readings when those readings matter the most. Sight flow indicators are also applicable to gas and powder product, making them an important part of product control across many different industries.

Available Flow Indicators

If you are looking for a reliable, cost-effective flow indicator for your facility, look no further than Tank Components. We offer two kinds of flow indicators:

  • Sterile Full-View Flow Indicator for Hygienic Applications: Rated up to 150 psi, the new sterile full-view visual flow indicator features polished stainless steel sanitary clamp connections. These units feature a competitive price as well as convenient in-line mounting options, offering a full view of virtually any pipeline fluid. Units are also available with optional stainless steel mesh shields.
  • Metaglas® Sanitary Inline Sight Glass with MetaClamp®: Manufacturing applications can be dangerous, including those at extreme temperatures or high pressures. In these circumstances, sight glass failure can be deadly, involving leakage or explosive glass shattering. If you need the optics of glass and the fail-safe strength of steel, this sight glass is your best option. Metaglas® mechanically pre-stressed windows are the most secure glass elements available, and this option includes a sanitary design visual flow indicator perfect for processing applications. The unit provides an unparalleled level of safety and durability that goes well beyond conventional tempered glass.
