Hemispherical heads are a popular choice for pressure vessels due to their ideal shape, which divides the pressure in the vessel equally across the head’s surface. Also known as hemispherical tank heads or hemispherical dished ends, they’re commonly used on liquid and gas storage tanks. At Tank Components Industries, we construct our multi-piece hemispherical heads from stainless steel, Hastelloy™ and other nickel alloys in a variety of sizes and thicknesses.

Application
A hemispherical head works well in applications that require a high level of pressure and a large-diameter pressure vessel. Compared to other tank head designs, hemispherical heads are better able to safely handle high-pressure vessels. They have a simple radial geometry; the depth of the head is half the diameter, and the radius of the head equals the radius of the cylindrical part of the vessel. This design is ideally shaped to distribute physical force across the head’s surface, even in large-diameter applications.
